The Project

Dear Visitor:

This website was created to mark the retirement of Dr. James Arieti from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia at the end of the Spring 2021 term.

​

For the occasion, Jim recorded ten dialogues with friends, colleagues, and former students. The conversations took place between October 2020 and February 2021.

​

These casual exchanges give testament not just to Jim's scholarship, humanity, and humor but also to the impact he has had on so many people during his long and legendary career.

​

Once the videos were finished, Jim provided additional materials to complete the project, including a series of dialogues he wrote and actors performed during the 1990s.

​

The site offers a glimpse into what it was like to study with and learn from Jim.​​ For all of us who participated in this project, it was a pleasure and a privilege.
